A Pentecost on college campuses

The Holy Spirit is at work on campuses across the Northeast! We just recently heard a story from a few BASIC students at SUNY Geneseo. The BASIC students were visiting a small group meeting of another Christian ministry on campus. After the meeting ended, the leader of the other club asked if anyone wanted to discuss anything else. A student in BASIC asked how others felt about baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.

A student from the other Christian club began to express that he believed in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but didn’t know if everyone could receive. Another student expressed that he had spoken in tongues before, but wasn’t sure that it was real. The BASIC students tried to encourage him and let him know that he had received a touch from the Holy Spirit and that he shouldn’t let Satan discourage him or bring doubt. They decided as a group to begin going through the Word to see what it says about the topic.

After an hour and a half of looking through the Scriptures and intense discussion, one of the students from the other Christian ministry suggested they pray together about it. They decided to move into one of the student’s rooms and as they prayed, the power of the Holy Spirit became evident and filled the room!

Two of the students were filled with incredible joy and began to shake. They said later that they had a different language running through their minds, but were unsure about speaking it out. These students were so filled with joy that they immediately began telling others in their group about this newfound joy and power!

A few days later, several BASIC students again spontaneously prayed with a friend from another Christian ministry for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This time, 3 new people began speaking in tongues!

This is just another amazing story of how God is working on college campuses! We’re so excited to be a part of it with you. When BASIC was founded 30 years ago, God spoke to the founder Mike Cavanaugh that there would be a Pentecost on college campuses. The purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to empower us to be the best kind of witnesses for Christ we can be. This is just the beginning of a movement that will change our college campuses!
