What a crazy week! One week ago, I thought I was buying a computer on craigslist.org. As I met with the “seller” in my car at a Wal-Mart parking lot, he asked to see the $1000 I had brought to buy the computer. I told him I wanted to see the computer first. Instead of reaching into his bag to pull out a computer, he pulled out a black and silver handgun and pointed it right at me!
Wow. Not what I was expecting to see! Of course, I was very frightened for what was about to happen. As I reached down to pick up the money, I realized I had an opening to try to defend myself. There was was no room for hesitation. I jumped at the gun and started wrestling with my attacker. By God’s grace, I was able to disarm the young man and pin him down until the police came. Two men, hearing my shouting for help, also came over to assist.
I’m so thankful to God for keeping me safe. What was more amazing than the actual incident itself was how God used this potential catastrophe to bring glory to His name. I talked to several different TV news stations and radio talk shows about the experience. When they asked for my advice, I said, “MAKE SURE YOU’RE RIGHT WITH JESUS!” LOL! God is awesome!
The whole event reminded me of a poem my dad taught me when I was younger:
Only one life,
‘Twill soon be past
Only what’s done for Christ will last
What are you living for? Is it going to last? Is it worthy of what Christ died for? Life is just a vapor in the wind. Make it count!
